This is a Miu Miu instagram post from a few days ago.
Miuccia Prada was a proud communist as a young woman at university. Age can change people but it still puts a smile on my face to think that the most influential designer of the last forty years was passionately engaged in politics at one time.
I love this photo.
I love it because it reminds me of the beautiful Michelle Obama, whose passionate message to the American people (listen to it HERE) brought tears to my eyes this week. Mrs Obama expresses her deep sadness about the fact that the Trump campaign is using racist dog whistles to scare suburban voters about having neighbours who look like her.
We all love our kids, right? We all want the best life for them, and we all want them to be happy. Now imagine for a moment having to worry about your girls or boys being shunned or feared by their neighbours when they move into their first home, just because of the colour of their skin.
I would much appreciate it if you would take the time to listen to her plea, it's heartbreaking, but we all need to hear it.
The reason this photo reminded me of the former First Lady is because she used to wear J.Crew clothes with such innate style. Jenna Lyons did this look so well during her fabulous years at the helm of my beloved preppy fashion house; I still cherish a cardigan, necklace and brooch from J.Crew almost identical to the ones in the photo.
I am pretty sure that Miuccia Prada supports Michelle Obama's view on the next US election.
I would bet my house that her new designer Raf Simons feels the same way.
I don't have a doubt in my mind that Jenna Lyons and Mickey Drexler, formerly of J.Crew, feel the same way.
We all feel that way because this is not a normal US election. This isn't about a choice between valid issues on the left and the right.
Civilised people can have intelligent debates about health care and taxation without calling their opponents losers or suckers.
Civilised men can talk about women without bragging you can "grab them by the pussy, because when you're a star they let you do it".
This is not a normal election. I respect people's views on fiscal issues, the environment, prescription drug costs, or immigration -- and I am always open to discuss topics with any respectful debater. But this US president is poison, and he has to go.
If you do not feel the same way - if you cannot see that the current president of the United States is a vile racist who courts the support of white supremacists, a misogynistic hater of outspoken women, a habitual liar, and an insult to decency and human kindness everywhere, then I ask that you unsubscribe or never open this blog again.
If it were up to me, I would never let you buy another Prada or J.Crew item ever again.
Lucky you it's not up to me.
Goodbye.
