Acid Wash for Cool Girls
Can acid wash jeans be cool? Can anyone who uses the word cool be cool? I mean, really, my memory from the 80s is that anything made from acid wash denim was B-U-T-T - ugly. So no way I'd ever expect them to 1. come back 2. look so good that I am itching to secretly break my no-shopping pact. Check these out on www.matchesfashion.com, they are just dreamy.

The more the merrier
Tommy Ton from the beautiful fashion photo blog www.jakandjil.com has been taking lots of pictures of fashion editors with their arms loaded up with bracelets.

And now the stores are full of them - spiky punk looks are popular, as are bracelets woven with colorful ribbon or thread. And metal colors are mixed up - gold, silver, gunmetal and rose gold happily work together. It's a trend I will always love - so easy to cheer up simple classic clothes with a watch and a bracelet.

Niseko snow
Sorry, fashion this week consists of puffy jackets and unflattering ski pants. Not to mention the helmets. Such a bad look. But the powder light snow is making up for it.
This is pretty much the look... although rest assured I am not in this picture. But yes, that is Darth Vader in the middle. On the left our amazing guide from http://www.smguides.net/index.html. You must hire them if you go to Niseko. No one knows the powder better than Adam.

Beach season
Beach season is almost here - we just got a tiny bit of Chinese New Year cold to overcome now and then spring is here! I love stocking up on bikinis now, cos that also gives me an incentive to do the required exercise to wear them. This is such a great print! I really dislike logo prints, would never be caught dead in one, but this is pretty and the colors are beautiful and subdued. It's Mulberry and it's a drawn version of the (mulberry) tree which is usually stamped on their hardware. Super lovely choice for the season. Find it at www.net-a-porter.com.

Who's that girl
Rarely has an actress left such an impression on me as Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. And it seems it's universal, everyone I have talked to loved this vulnerable yet ass-kicking creature. I am hoping for a sequel, a good one, which should be doable if Rooney and Daniel Craig reunite.

Short cut
Arizona Muse looks gorgeous with her hair super short. Kind of nice to see such a prominent model cut her hair - reminds me of the days of Linda Evangelista and her ever changing hair styles and colors. And if I didn't have that unfortunate no-shopping pact with my husband, I'd be racing to Causeway Bay to Isabel Marant in Paterson Street.

Classics revisited
Love love love these classic shapes re-done in a bit of fresh color. Too bad I am involved in an unfortunate no-shopping pact with my husband.

When in doubt go German
Not much need to buy paper magazines anymore, there are lots of inspiring images to look at online without the annoying advertisements. And so often I find only 2 or 3 things that I want to go back to, while the rest of the issue doesn't really do anything for me. The models in US Vogue all look suspiciously like the very elegant and ladylike Anna Wintour in Oscar de la Renta dresses. In Paris Vogue they are now spitting images of Emmanuelle Alt in skinny black jeans, Alaia heels and Isabel Marant on top. I have no idea who the editor of German Vogue is and I didn't even feel like looking it up for this post. I'd rather not know! Cos usually German Vogue is very pleasant, clear shots of the clothes, a bit of a Jil Sander-ish look overall, but always colorful and exciting to look at. I haven't got the sense they are trying to be edgy, instead it's fairly grown-up and polished. I like it. But this too you don't need to buy in paper form... see for yourself at http://www.vogue.de/
Fashion after Christmas
Fashion before Christmas always seems so exciting - the sparkly shoes and dresses - the Miu Miu boudoir-like windows were my favorite this season.
damn silver fish moxie joined us for some pauillac
We always do a trip to Antwerp to visit COS and thankfully they hadn't started their sale. Sale shopping is the worst and COS is already inexpensive so no need to fight with fellow shoppers for the bargain bin. And good news, the next store planned is in Hong Kong, although if I find out where, I am not going to tell - I am not even remotely kidding and Emma W. you better stick to that promise too :). So now that it's back to fashion after Christmas I am getting ready for spring. Jane and I are planning lots of goodies for spring and do email me if you are going somewhere warm for Chinese New Year. I have just seen a picture of Sydney Fashion Girl in one of our maxis and she is looking hot. If she lets me I will post the pic tomorrow.
where have I seen this necklace before???
But then when it's actually Christmas I never seem to wear anything worth mentioning - on such a family holiday it's usually comfy stuff and knits while sitting by the fire. I was in Holland and it rained and rained and then rained some more, so lots of fires and my dad brought out some of his prize bottles - a Petrus with its label eaten by silver fish, worth a blog picture I thought. Fashion found its way into the house only thru my daughter's presents - look at the golden leggings on that Moxie girl.
